Computational Biologist

  • This contract position provides the opportunity join Client Research and Early Development’s Proteomics group to implement and deliver bioinformatics tools for a wide range of applications working with high-throughput protein analysis.
  • The candidate will join a team focused on infrastructure developments for proteomics and collaborate with many research groups in Client, working with both bioinformatics and bench biology teams to analyze, structure, and visualize data to help scientists understand the biological underpinnings of disease central to Client’s drug development efforts.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop high-performance bioinformatics software solutions for proteomics and integrate
  • them into Python-based analysis system.
  • Implement the storage and manipulation of complex proteomics data in data storage
  • platforms using semantic graph technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Bioinformatics,
  • Biotechnology, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Python and building structured Python applications
  • Familiarity with web development and production / consumption of rest APIs
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL
  • Basic Unix/Linux proficiency
  • Experience with version control (git), familiarity with issue tracking systems (JIRA),
  • CI/CD (Gitlab) and container-based virtualization (Docker)
  • Familiarity with shared high-performance computing environments
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with great attention to
  • detail in coding practices
  • Team-oriented focus and the ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with visualization software (Spotfire)
  • Experience with graph databases (Stardog)
  • Prior experience designing relational databases in a bioinformatics environment
  • Prior experience with ontologies or controlled vocabularies
  • Prior experience with frontend web development (Vue.js)

Note: candidate must reside within the GTA, Ontario
