Front-end Engineer in US-Remote

SCOPE OF SERVICES
The front-end engineer will work with the Service team to build user-interfaces for NYC Jobs, MyCity, DOF, and other projects as needed. Work will be done in 2-week agile sprints, with tasks assigned from a prioritized backlog. The front-end engineer will be expected to help create assignments to be prioritized for every sprint. The front-end engineer will be involved in agency stakeholder meetings, and present deliverables in team meetings. All on-going work and deliverables will be reviewed together with the NYC Digital Service Design team.

TASKS:

• Perform technical discovery on assigned projects to determine engineering scope of work
• Work closely with Design team to surface user-interface opportunities and constraints
• Utilize industry best-practices to deliver fully accessible and responsive user-interfaces in optimized payloads
• Write documentation for source code deliverables
• Include web analytics on all site deliverables to provide usage insights

 MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE 

• Minimum of 4 years of experience building front-end user interfaces
• Demonstrated experience with front-end engineering standards: ES6 JavaScript and code bundling, semantic HTML, CSS preprocessors and utility libraries, cross-browser and device testing, a11y auditing, core web vitals analysis
• Experience building and working with extensible code bases
• Experience pairing with other disciplines to create userinterfaces for digital tools and services
• Strong communication skills to collaborate and work with leadership, experts and decision makers
• Knowledge of agile ways of working and modern software development practices

 DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Ability to coach stakeholders in agile ways of working for front-end engineering
• Desire to take an active role in the cross-government digital community
• Experience creating user interface design systems
